Beware of Spoofed Phone Numbers
As time goes by, scammers are getting more sophisticated. One common tactic is to use phone number spoofing. Seeing a familiar name or number on your caller ID does not guarantee that the call is legitimate. Spoofing is a kind of fraud where scammers disguise their phone number, email address, or message to make it appear as though it is coming from a trusted source.
Be cautious if the caller, text, email:
🚩Asks for personal information, such as your account number, online banking credentials, PIN, etc.
🚩Pressures you to act immediately or threatens account closures, financial losses, or even jail time.
🚩Request payments via gift cards, wire transfers, or peer-to-peer apps.
🚩Tells you to keep their call or situation confidential.
🚩Directs you to click links or download apps during the call.
A legitimate bank will never:
🚫Ask for your full login credentials or secure access codes.
🚫Demand immediate payment on the phone.
🚫Threaten or rush you into a decision.
How to stay safe:
✅ HANG UP and don’t open messages or emails if something feels off, even if the caller ID or email looks right.
✅ Call your bank directly using the number on your card or the bank’s official website.
✅ Monitor your account(s) regularly to look out for suspicious activity.
✅ Report suspicious calls to your bank, immediately.
